BAMSA’s inaugural webinar focused on the work of Professor David Scott of Texas A&M University.
Professor Scott pioneered the analysis of bridge players in the 1990s. His work laid the foundation for subsequent sociology of bridge research.
The event was chaired by Professor Samantha Punch of the University of Stirling and project lead for Bridge: A MindSport for All (BAMSA).
During the webinar Professor Scott gave a personal account of his reasons for researching bridge players. He also outlined the theoretical framework that informed his work.
After his presentation there were short discussions of four of his 1990s academic articles. Members of the BAMSA research team presented each of the four papers: Dr Miriam Snellgrove, Zoe Russell, Jordan Maclean and Professor Punch.
During the webinar Professor Scott responded to questions put to him by participants and members of the BAMSA team.
The 36 participants were a mix of academics, bridge administrators and players from 11 different countries around the world. The webinar was recorded and has been watched by more than 65 viewers.
